Title: Unappreciated
Author: Candyland (

Fandom: Naruto: A ninja possessed by a Ninetales…err, fox-demon tries to become leader of his village. Meanwhile, Sasuke emos. And Kakashi reads porn. And Sakura is there too. Oh, and there are fights.
Wordcount: 265
Taunt: My fandom’s ninjas wear bright orange.
It’s not easy being a log in a ninja anime.
When a ninja’s in trouble, we’re there. We take their place, letting them get away while we are sliced to pieces. Sometimes a dozen of us can fall in a single ninja duel. Sometimes even more than that.
And there’s no room for error—not even a second. That second could mean the difference between life and death for the ninja we are there to help. There are no mistakes permissible, no second chances. We have to be there. Or else.
Sometimes it’s stressful, what we do. I’ve seen friends reduced to mulch by katana strikes or turned to ash by fire attacks. My best friend was hacked apart protecting a chunin from an ambush. It makes me think of my kids, and what they’ll do if that happens to me. They’re just twigs now, but someday they’ll grow up to be logs.
They want to follow in my footsteps, you know. It worries me, yet I can’t help but be proud of them.
Every day we wait on the ground, in the forest, on woodpiles, knowing that today could be our day. It could be our turn to do our job and save a ninja.
And no one appreciates us. No one even seems to notice what we do. But we do it anyway. No matter how underappreciated we may be, we take our responsibility seriously and do our job with great pride.
It’s not easy being a log in a ninja anime.
But none of us logs would have it any other way.
PS. Before anyone even asks, YES, I have seen Naruto Abridged, and YES, their running “logged” joke did partially inspire this, though not completely. Yes, I am a hack. No, I am not ashamed of being a hack. Yes, I found this amusing. No, you may not come at me with that pitchfork.
Thanks for reading, all! Much love!
